View worksI paint what happens a second before waking. Birds, knights, fish and flowers are not symbols here, but witnesses. Every work is painted in oil on canvas and exists in a single copy.
Contemporary artist. I work in oil, acrylic and coloured pencil, most often on a deep black ground from which the light picks out only what matters.
Animals, armour, flowers and human anatomy meet in these works, subjects where beauty and unease cannot be separated. I paint slowly, in series, and never repeat a subject twice.
Black ground first. The canvas is primed dark and the image is pulled out of it with light.
Then the layers. Oil dries slowly, so a single work can take several weeks.
Last come the details: an eye, a petal, a spark. That is where the work starts to look back.
You tell me what the work should be about. I ask questions and propose an idea.
We agree on the composition, canvas size and timing. Then I start painting.
I share the stages as I go. The finished work is packed and sent with its documents.
